American/Puertorican band leader, percussionist and founder of Los Jóvenes Del Barrio. He was married to Jillian Armsbury. Born to Puerto Rican parents, he grew up on DeKalb Avenue in the Bed Sty area of Brooklyn, New York. Soon he was playing along with music using various household objects. Taking things seriously at age 16, he started on bongos, then congas, then on to timbales - the instrument he is best known for.
