ROY HAYNES, a jazz drummer who ignited the rhythmic fire on landmark performances by Charlie Parker, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, and inspired countless other musicians by expanding the musical vocabulary of his instrument over an eight-decade career, died Nov. 12 in Oceanside, New York. He was 99. Mr. Haynes came of musical age in the 1940s as the swing era was giving way to the more complex rhythmic and harmonic innovations of the bebop revolution, led by saxophonist Parker and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie — both of whom Mr. Haynes accompanied.
