Life is a Dream
Puentes Rivero 10.25.2018 - 01.03.2019 Narthex Gallery
About the work
Life is a Dream, in honor to Pedro Calderon de la Barca, presents the creative process of PUENTES RIVERO, an artist who dreams about reality with hopes of transforming it into a better world.
Understanding life as a dream requires learning to observe, imagine and be willing to transform to recreate.
Before the universe that allows dreams reality can become limited. However, Calderon de la Barca in Life is a Dream plays with the notion of reality and proposes an alternative way, a theory of knowledge. Calderon maintains as an epistemological principle that what we call reality is built not on what we know, but on what we recognize. Masterfully demonstrates that fantasy and dreams can function as reality.
In artists lies the power to freely transfigure reality to communicate meaning to others in a language deeper and more universal than words. For PUENTES RIVERO, Life is Dream every day, in every moment. He understands the artistic creation as a peculiar life style, so he needs constant stimuli, everything is a matter of investigation.
The imagination in Puentes Rivero is nourished by the cultural baggage he built to overcome the alienation that the contemporary paradigm imposes.
Between his influences they emphasize two types of events: On the one hand, the extraordinary ones, those like landscapes that he has visited and the cultures he has lived with. However, the other great source of ideas is the everyday: readings, museums, marvel at the beauty of a flower or simply with the shapes of things. Small details that his eyes can dream and transform into an overcoming fact.
Without being pretentious, Life is a Dream seeks to bring all those who wish to enjoy it, the particular transforming look of an artist and the magic of dreams, which make art a millenarian discipline, eternal but changing, that has to offer people the possibility of a pleasant existence, of a better world.
