Jazz Memorial for Ronny Whyte
(Janis Wilkins)
Saint Peter’s Church recently hosted “The Party Upstairs” a Jazz Memorial for Ronny Whyte, a heartfelt celebration honoring the life and music of the beloved pianist, vocalist, and songwriter.
The event took place in the church’s upstairs sanctuary, where friends, family, and fellow musicians gathered to share memories, laughter, and music. The space was transformed into an intimate jazz club, filled with the warmth and energy that Ronny himself brought to every performance.
The evening was less a solemn gathering than a party upstairs, capturing the energy and generosity that defined Ronny’s life. Attendees reminisced about his influence as a musician, collaborator, and friend, while the music reminded everyone why his presence mattered so much.
For Saint Peter’s Church, the memorial was a perfect example of how sacred spaces can host celebrations of life, art, and community. It highlighted the power of music to honor the past while bringing people together in the present.
