On Monday, January 13, 2025, the Arts and Architecture Conservancy presented a heartfelt Jazz Memorial for the legendary percussionist Johnny “Dandy” Rodríguez Jr. at Saint Peter’s Church (619 Lexington Ave). Renowned as one of the most recorded Afro‑Cuban percussionists in salsa and Latin jazz, Johnny’s life and music were celebrated by an intimate gathering of musicians, collaborators, and devoted fans.

A vibrant stream of performances honored Johnny’s unparalleled legacy—from his early days with Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, and Ray Barretto, to his leadership of bands like Típica 73 and the Mambo Legends Orchestra. Attendees shared heartfelt memories and stories that echoed the joy, discipline, and virtuosity defining Johnny’s career.
