Cultural Medallion Dedication

In 2024, working with the Historical Landmarks Preservation Center, two cultural medallions were installed at Saint Peter’s honoring Louise Nevelson and Lella and Massimo Vignelli.

The Cultural Medallions Program was initiated to create a sense of pride in history and of place among New Yorkers and visitors, to document significant individuals, and notable occurrences related to the economic, political, and social history of New York City. The plaques themselves were originally designed pro bono by Massimo Vignelli.

To mark the occasion, Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Chair of Historic Landmarks Preservation Center and NYC Landmarks60 Alliance led a program including remarks from Jared R. Stahler, Senior Pastor of Saint Peter’s Church and Executive Director of The Arts and Architecture Conservancy at Saint Peter’s, Josh Owen, Director of the Vignelli Center for Design at Rochester Institute of Technology, Janet Conradi, Professor at Rowan University, Laurie Beckelman, Advisor for Civic, Cultural, and Preservation Organizations, Michael Bierut, Partner at Pentagram, Anne Umland, Curator Emerita, Former Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Senior Curator and Department of Painting and Sculpture at MOMA and Arne Glimcher, Gallerist and Founder of Pace Gallery and Filmmaker.
