Kinancer
(Emma Rose Mulligan)
Saint Peter’s Church hosted Steelstatue & Sheep Meadow Dance Present: KINANCER, a two-night performance on January 12 and 13 at 7:00 P.M.
KINANCER brought together contemporary ballet, sculpture, and music in a collaborative, site-specific work. Dancers from Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre interacted with and activated a 750-pound kinetic steel sculpture created by Jack Howard-Potter, integrating movement and structure into a single performance environment. The work was set to original music by composer Nick Virzi.
Conceived and directed by Billy Blanken, Artistic Director of Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre, the project united the contributions of choreographer, composer, and sculptor in real time. The performance took place within Saint Peter’s modern sanctuary, where the architecture functioned as an active part of the presentation.
The Arts and Architecture Conservancy was pleased to present this collaboration and to welcome audiences for two evenings of interdisciplinary performance at Saint Peter’s Church.
