Body Part Bouquets
Jack Howard-Potter 09.03.2025 - 02.27.2026 Narthex Gallery
Jack Howard-Potter is well-known for his monumental figurative steel sculptures displayed throughout the United States. These complement smaller-scale works in painting, drawing and sculpture. Howard-Potter uses the same fabrication techniques for all of his works which requires the steel rods to be bent cold, by hand, one at a time, and welded into place. For this exhibition, he has created a new body of work called Body Part Bouquets. These bouquets are comprised of figurative elements, disassociated with bodies, that stand on their own as abstracted arrangements of color and form. The sculptures explore a familiarity with the forms but sow confusion through their relationships. As an artist his interest lies in the abstracted shapes and colors that overlap and mix as the viewer moves around the works creating unexpected abstract shapes. Viewers may identify the forms as a body in motion or abstract expressionist shapes depending on ones frame of reference’s effect on their gaze.
